Hot Fractured Rock (HFR) allows for the extraction of geothermal energy from rock formations that are naturally impermeable, expanding the potential geothermal resources beyond areas with naturally occurring geothermal reservoirs. It requires the creation of artificial fractures to facilitate fluid circulation and heat exchange.
