Nitric acid (HNO3) is a yellowish, fuming liquid with a molecular weight of 63.01. It is readily miscible with water, highly corrosive and is a strong oxidizing agent that will attack most metals. It boils and decomposes at 359.2 K, its freezing point is 231.6 K, while its specific gravity is 1.5. It comes in different industrial grades depending on the strength of the aqueous solution.
