Hydrochloric acid is hydrogen chloride (HC1) in aqueous solution. It is a colorless, fuming liquid that comes in different industrial grades depending on the concentration of hydrogen chloride, which has a molecular weight of 36.46. The concentrated, fuming acid contains 35-38% hydrogen chloride and has a specific gravity of 1.19. It is a strong and corrosive acid, which is highly toxic.
