Heavy water is the common name for deuterium oxide (D2O). Its molecular weight is 20.03 and its physical properties are similar to those of water. It boils at 374.5 K and freezes at 277 K. Heavy water is found naturally in very low concentrations in water and its main usage is in nuclear reactors as a moderator.
